About the Institute
A national academy built for the work of governing
Founded on the conviction that leadership is a discipline that can be taught, examined and practised to a professional standard.
Our History
From a small fellowship to a national institution
The Academy began in 2011 as an evening fellowship for a handful of young civil servants who wanted more than what their postings could teach them. Retired permanent secretaries, legislators and university scholars volunteered their evenings; the first cohort numbered nineteen.
Fifteen years later the Institute runs certificate, diploma and executive programmes across three campuses and a digital learning platform reaching every state of the federation. Our alumni serve in ministries, legislatures, local councils, civil society and the private sector.
What has not changed is the founding conviction: that a republic is only as strong as the character and competence of the people who serve it.
